Southwest Endocrinology Associates was established by Dr. Ferraro in December 1996, with the idea of creating a multidisciplinary team approach to care and treatment for diabetes and other endocrine and metabolic disorders.

Southwest Endocrinology Associates offers a full range of services including patient care, individualized medically supervised diabetes education, group classes, weight management programs and disease management services. Each member of the care team at SWENDO is dedicated to improving the health and lives of those we serve.

Our mission is to improve the health status, productivity, and quality of life of people in New Mexico by empowering them and their families to self manage their chronic illnesses as effectively and safely as possible.

Robert Ferraro, MD. Medical Director

Dr. Ferraro is a board certified endocrinologist, diabetologist, and specialist in clinical nutrition. He is a former clinical associate of the National Institute of Health and an active member of NASO (North American Association For The Study Of Obesity). Dr. Ferraro is a noted speaker at local, national and international medical conferences and author of articles in the prestigious New England Journal of Medicine.

Leisha Bevoni, PA-C, MMSc

Leisha Bevoni, physician assistant, received her Master of Medical Science degree from Emory University School of Medicine in December 2001. She worked in family medicine prior to joining the staff at Southwest Endocrinology. In May 2003 she completed the American Society of Bariatric Physicians 2003 Western Regional Obesity Course and published a review article on treating obesity in the primary care setting. Currently, she specializes in diabetes and weight management, and provides clinician and care manager services for weight management program participants.
