Generic: Combination of Glyburide and Metformin

Class: Sulfonylureas + Biguanides

Action: Improves the different metabolic defects found in type 2 diabetes. Lowers blood sugar primarily by causing more of the body’s own insulin to be released.  Metformin lowers blood sugar, in part by helping your body use you own insulin more effectively. It can be used as an adjunct to insulin.

Duration: up to 12 hours

Timing: Once or twice daily with food

Side Effects: Nausea, diarrhea and stomach upset. Some light headedness, dizziness and shakiness or hunger may occur.

Precautions: Take with meals. You shoud not take Glucovance if you have chronic kidney or liver problems, or are presently being treated for congestive heart failure.
